
Relationships Over Time Study
A research study sponsored by the National Science Foundation to better understand how people’s
romantic relationships grow and change over time.
Led by researchers in Wayne State University’s Department of Psychology.
Study details approved by the Wayne State University Institutional Review Board.

Who can participate?
This study is primarily for monogamous couples who have been dating for less than a year, do not live together or have children together, and are not engaged/married.
BOTH partners need to participate, so we encourage you to discuss this study with your partner before you enroll.

What will we do?
Complete online surveys over time.
Prescreening: Zoom call (on camera) with our research team. Must show Photo ID.
Wave I: large introductory survey
Wave II: short weekly surveys until end of May 2025
Wave III: only for those who break up. Large introductory survey about breakup + short surveys for 28 days

How much does it pay?
Each member of the couple is compensated individually. The first survey pays $10 USD, weekly check-ins (taking just a couple of minutes) pay $2 per week + entry into raffles. If participants join Wave III, each partner could earn up to $180 USD.
Payment is made in gift cards of your choice via Rewards Genius.
